What do I need to bring to my exam?

There are things you must, can, and can’t bring to your exam. Alleviate any additional stress by knowing exactly what’s allowed. Plus, discover when you should arrive and if you can take a toilet break (you can, of course, though there are some conditions).

If you have a disability or medical condition and need to make special arrangements for your exam, contact AccessAbility Services at the start of your teaching period.

What must I bring to my exam?

  • Your Student ID (or a current passport or a current Australian driver’s license). If you don’t bring ID, you might not be able to sit your exam.
  • Your seat allocation details (either printed or on your phone)
  • Pens, pencils, erasers, rulers (they must have no writing on them)

What else can I bring to my exam?

  • A clear water bottle with no writing or labels – the liquid must be transparent
  • A small number of lollies in clear wrappers (e.g. barley sugars). They must have no writing on them and must not be disruptive to other students.
  • A calculator (if authorised for your exam). Check Canvas or contact your Unit Convenor for this information.

What about items outside of this list?
If you have any other items on you, such as your wallet and keys, you must place them in your bag and under your chair (or as directed by the supervisor). Please check your pockets before the exam begins to avoid risking misconduct.

What about my mobile phones, smartwatch and other electronic devices?
These are banned items. You cannot have a mobile phone, smartwatch or any other electronic devices on you during your exam. You need to disable any alarms, switch off all devices, and place them in your bag under your chair (or in another location as directed by the exam supervisor).

What happens if I forget to turn off an electronic device?
It will be considered misconduct. So make sure you check all alarms are disabled, and that all devices are switched off and stowed in your bag under your chair. If in doubt, remove the battery.

When should I arrive for my exam?
Arrive early so you have plenty of time to find your room and seat, and prepare.

What happens if I’m late?
If you arrive more than 30 minutes late, you will not be able to sit your exam. Showing up early will help you keep calm, shows respect for your classmates, and gives you the opportunity to perform your best.

What if I need a break?
The only kind of break allowed is a toilet break (which staff monitor). You can’t leave the room in the first 30 minutes or the last 15 minutes of the exam.
